Airfares

Airfares can vary depending on the Airline, but we recommend flying with Qantas Airlines (from Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne to La Guardia Airport in New York) for $6117 round-trip.

New York City has a very interconnected transportation system. Options include taking an uber, taking buses/trains (public transport), renting e-bikes or walking, all of which can be achieved for a fairly reasonable price. However, the New York subway doesn't exactly have the best reputation, so exercise caution while travelling on it.

Accommodation in New  York can be a bit pricey. Hotels range from $150 AUD per night to over $1000 AUD for the most premium experience.

Warnings about travelling in New York City

In New York City, tourist scams are common. They usually start off as something harmless, like a selfie with a character from a movie, but ending up in a hefty bill. This is due to money being hard to earn, while rent is extremely difficult to pay. Some civilians therefore consider these (technically legal) scams as their best option for income.

New York City, and also the United States in general, can often be sterotyped as having a lot of gun violence. While this is not 100% true, it is still recommended to exercise caution while travelling, especially alone or after dark, as crime and gun violence rates are often higher than other countries.
